Rain Garden Workshop
Tuesday, March 13, 2007
Installing a rain garden can be a beautiful way to use rainwater as a resource in residential and public landscapes. Sewer systems were designed to drain rain water from our urban/suburban landscapes very quickly, and this has resulted in an increase in stream bank erosion due to high water levels in our creeks and streams after rain events. Rain gardens hold rain water for a day or two and allow the water to slowly drain to the storm sewer system. Rain gardens also allow water to soak deep into the ground and plants in the garden filter pollutants and store water in their roots. This workshop will demonstrate how municipalities have installed rain gardens in their communities and how individuals have created these beautiful gardens in their home landscapes.
The workshop will take place on Tuesday, March 13 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. (registration at 6:30 p.m.) at the Environmental Interpretive Center, University of Michigan-Dearborn, 4901 Evergreen Road, Dearborn, Michigan. For more information or to register call 313-792-9621, or email piccoordinator@therouge.org.
