Congratulations to Al Gore and the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change who won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize last week! This is a good reminder of how critical environmental issues are to the future of our society. If you still haven't seen the movie, renting it would be a great way to celebrate this historic achievement.

Get Wild at Work with the Wildlife Habitat Council
Across North America, employers are finding out that a bit of nature at the work site is good for employee morale, community relations, and of course for wildlife conservation and are working to enhance and conserve habitat areas - large or small - on their own property. Habitat programs could involve acres of forest at a mining site, wooded buffers around a factory complex, or a small pollinator garden at an office entrance. More that 2 million acres of land have been involved in habitat enhancement programs through Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) alone.
In the Lake Huron to Lake Erie corridor, 33 corporate sites on both sides of the border have achieved WHC Wildlife at Work certification of their active habitat programs. These programs include rain gardens, shoreline naturalization, or native plant buffers that help protect the Detroit River and its tributaries. Major corporate participants include BASF, Ontario Power Generation, Ford, GM, DTE Energy, and more. For more information or to get involved, contact Martha at gruellem@dteenergy.com.
