Belle Isle Blue Heron Lagoon Natural Area Project

Benefit: The 41 acre Blue Heron Lagoon on the eastern end of Belle Isle will be restored through a project that will assure the protection of unique native species such as the Prairie Ladies Tresses, Pumpkin Ash, and Sullivants Milkweed, and offer educational opportunities for visitors. The project will also develop strategies for controlling invasive species like phragmites. This project is a step towards the development ot a deep-water fish habitat in the lagoon and a direct fish connection between the lagoon and the Detroit River.
