I would like to let everyone know that this will be my last newsletter for the DRCC because I am moving on to pursue different opportunities. I want you to know that I have truly enjoyed working with all of the passionate people involved with the DRCC, including our many dedicated volunteers. Not to worry though, you will still be receiving our e-newsletters, they will just be coming from a new person! Kristin Ives, DRCC Assistant, will be filling in until a new Coordinator is hired.
If you have items that you would like to have included in the newsletter, please send them to Kristin at postmaster@detroitriver.ca.

What You Eat vs. What You Drive
Which contributes more to global warming, eating meat or driving cars? According to a recent report published by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, animal agriculture generates more greenhouse gas emissions than transport. Additionally, it is a major source of land and water degradation.
Geophysics professors at the University of Chicago also examined this 'hot topic'. They concluded that when it comes to global warming, what you eat is more important than what kind of car you drive. Their findings reveal that the average American diet requires the production of an extra 1.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide per person (as well as methane and other greenhouse gasses) compared to a strictly vegetarian diet. To find out the impacts that your diet has on the environment check out the interactive Eating Green Calculator.
